Lalitpur, October 28, 2024 – In anticipation of the upcoming COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, a dedicated Pre-COP event was held today at Square Hotel, Lalitpur, aiming to prepare Nepalese youth for their role in global climate negotiations. The event, titled "Preparing Nepalese Young People for COP29 and NDC 3.0," brought together young climate activists, environmental experts, and representatives from various organizations.
The event, which ran whole day, was organized in collaboration with prominent partners, including Clean Energy Nepal, the Nepalese Youth for Climate Action (NYCA), Kathmandu Metropolitan City, UNICEF, World's Youth for Climate Justice, and YASEN. Participants engaged in discussions and workshops designed to strengthen their understanding of the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, with a specific focus on Nepal’s updated targets in NDC 3.0.
The Pre-COP event offered both in-person and virtual participation options, expanding accessibility to young people across the country. Participants learned about the strategic objectives of COP29, the mechanisms of climate policy, and the importance of youth voices in shaping sustainable futures.
Speakers emphasized the significance of empowering Nepalese youth to take an active role in climate actions, aligning with the country's goals to mitigate climate change impacts and advocate for a resilient future. With the support of UNICEF and other partners, this event marked an essential step in amplifying youth contributions and readiness for COP29.
As COP29 approaches, Nepal’s youth climate movement is gaining momentum, demonstrating their commitment to addressing urgent environmental challenges on both a local and global scale.
