Darchula, Nepal – A newly constructed multipurpose suspension bridge spanning 370 meters across the Kalagad River is set to transform daily life for the residents of Duhun Rural Municipality, connecting Wards 2 and 5.
This bridge is a significant infrastructure achievement, aimed at easing travel and enhancing accessibility between the two wards.
Before its construction, residents faced lengthy and hazardous routes to reach each other’s communities, especially during the monsoon season when river crossings became perilous. Now, the bridge provides a safe, direct link, greatly reducing travel time and promoting safer, year-round access for everyone.
Local authorities and residents refer to this as a "multipurpose" bridge, as it serves more than just transportation needs. It has enhanced access to essential services like healthcare, education, and local markets, all of which were previously challenging for the area’s remote residents to reach. Duhun Rural Municipality Chairperson expressed that the bridge is not only improving daily life but is also expected to support local economic development.
Government officials supported the project, and the construction company employed advanced engineering techniques to accommodate Darchula’s rugged terrain, ensuring both durability and safety.
