The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), one of Nepal’s most prominent conservation organizations, has been officially accredited as a National Implementing Entity (NIE) by the Adaptation Fund during the ongoing COP29 climate summit. This significant milestone brings Nepal into the Adaptation Fund's Direct Access community, a network of 34 NIEs worldwide dedicated to spearheading adaptation and resilience projects.Welcoming NTNC, Mikko Ollikainen, Head of the Adaptation Fund, commended the organization’s extensive contributions to nature conservation and sustainable development. NTNC’s Head for Climate Change, Dr. Manish Raj Pandey, represented the organization at the accreditation ceremony, marking a new chapter in Nepal’s climate adaptation journey.
With over four decades of experience, NTNC has completed more than 300 projects spanning biodiversity conservation, clean energy initiatives, climate change mitigation, cultural heritage protection, ecotourism, and sustainable development. Its grassroots approach, emphasizing the active participation of local communities, has set it apart as a leader in implementing impactful conservation programs.
NTNC also plays a pivotal role in managing Nepal’s protected areas in close collaboration with the government, further enhancing its capacity to undertake large-scale adaptation projects under the Adaptation Fund.
This accreditation empowers NTNC to independently identify, develop, and implement climate adaptation projects, bolstering Nepal’s efforts to address climate vulnerabilities and protect its rich natural and cultural heritage.
With the Adaptation Fund’s support, NTNC is poised to enhance its work in building resilience and adaptive capacities among vulnerable communities across Nepal, aligning with global climate goals and advancing sustainable development.
