Kathmandu, Nepal – Nepal and Germany have officially signed a grant agreement of €10 million (approximately NPR 1.46 billion) to implement the Power Distribution Strengthening Programme (PoDiSP). The agreement, aimed at revolutionizing Nepal’s energy infrastructure, was signed in Kathmandu by His Excellency Dr. Thomas Prinz, German Ambassador to Nepal, and Mr. Dhani Ram Sharma, Joint Secretary of the International Economic Cooperation Division at the Ministry of Finance.The PoDiSP initiative will support the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) in conducting a comprehensive feasibility study and upgrading existing power distribution systems with cutting-edge, climate-smart technologies. The program's objectives include enhancing energy efficiency, improving reliability, and fostering sustainability in power distribution, ensuring better electricity access in key regions across Nepal.
“This collaboration marks a significant step in strengthening Nepal’s energy infrastructure while aligning with global sustainability goals,” remarked Dr. Prinz during the signing ceremony. Mr. Sharma emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative, stating, “The implementation of PoDiSP will be instrumental in addressing Nepal’s growing energy demands while promoting climate-friendly development.”
Germany has been a long-term partner in Nepal’s development journey, with a strong focus on sustainable energy solutions. The PoDiSP program underscores the shared commitment of both nations to achieving energy efficiency and sustainable development, paving the way for an eco-friendly future.
