The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology, in collaboration with the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and UNESCO, has inaugurated a two-day "National TVET Policy Dialogue in Nepal" in Lalitpur. The policy dialogue aims to address key issues centered around equity and access, quality and relevance, governance and management, and coherence and transferability in technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
The opening session featured remarks from notable dignitaries, including Frederic Huebler, Head of UNESCO-UNEVOC; Dr. Oliver Piune, Head of the Technical Cooperation Unit; Member Secretary of CTEVT, Er. Mahesh Bhattarai; Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Dipak Kafle; and Planning Commission Member, Ms. Geeta Kumari Paudel Adhikari. They emphasized the need to improve the quality of education by linking it to industry and livelihoods.
The keynote address was delivered by the Chief Guest, Honorable Vidya Bhattarai, Minister of Education, Science, and Technology. She highlighted the importance of integrating education with vocational skills to create opportunities for all and fulfill the vision of a prosperous Nepal and happy Nepali citizens. The Minister underscored the significance of focusing on the green economy, addressing climate change, and utilizing local resources. She urged stakeholders to analyze the current context, ensure inter-ministerial and inter-level coordination, and harness skilled human resources to strengthen the care economy. Minister Bhattarai expressed hope that the dialogue would lead to a strategic review of technical education policies to overcome challenges and achieve sustainable outcomes.
The dialogue includes policy presentations and interactive discussions on topics such as Skills for Employability, Strategies for Digital Skills Development, Expanding Green Economy Skills and Sustainable Practices, and Restructuring TVET Governance in the Federal System.
This event serves as a platform to redefine Nepal’s technical education and vocational training strategies, ensuring they align with evolving national and global priorities.
