Lalitpur, Nepal – December 2, 2024
A remarkable cleanup campaign unfolded today in Ward 11 of Lalitpur Metropolitan City, reflecting a community-driven commitment to environmental stewardship. Spearheaded by 81 dedicated volunteers, ward officials, and staff from CLEAN UP NEPAL, the event yielded significant results, with 816.162 kg of waste removed from the vicinity of UN Park.
The waste audit categorized the collection into:
616.002 kg of mixed waste
21.495 kg of PET bottles
24.3 kg of glass
10.02 kg of clothes
Juben Tandulkar, Ward Member of Ward 11, expressed pride in the community’s efforts, stating, “These initiatives are vital for fostering sustainable practices. We are committed to continuing these campaigns to create a cleaner environment for our ward.”
The event also marked the official launch of the 'Green Empowerment through Vocational Training for Solid Waste Management in Lalitpur (GEMS-L)' project, introduced by Binita Pandey, Project Officer at CLEAN UP NEPAL. Highlighting the project’s goals, Pandey emphasized the importance of combining community participation with vocational training to address waste management challenges effectively.
The GEMS-L project is funded by the State Office for Development Cooperation (LEZ), supported by BGZ Berliner Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit mbH, and implemented by CLEAN UP NEPAL. This initiative underscores the growing emphasis on sustainable development and waste management practices in Lalitpur.
