Kathmandu, Nepal – December 6, 2024: To bolster the integration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Nepal's non-formal education (NFE) sector, UNESCO, in collaboration with the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) under the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology (MoEST), organized a transformative four-day capacity-building workshop from November 30 to December 3, 2024.
This initiative aligns with the goals of Nepal's School Education Sector Plan (SESP, 2022–2032), which emphasizes ICT-based education across all sectors, including NFE. Recognizing the pivotal role of technology in lifelong learning, UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) developed a customized training guidebook to equip non-formal education stakeholders with essential digital competencies.
The workshop engaged over 30 participants, including Community Learning Center (CLC) facilitators, chairpersons, and local education officials. The training focused on:
Enhancing digital competencies to produce high-quality, gender-inclusive, culturally and linguistically relevant ICT materials for NFE settings.
Introducing digital safeguarding measures, collaborative tools, and both synchronous and asynchronous methods of material delivery.
Exploring the use of Generative AI (Gen-AI) in developing educational content.
Addressing contextual challenges in technology use and developing strategies to ensure sustainable ICT integration in grassroots education.
Speaking about the program, UNESCO officials highlighted the importance of empowering stakeholders to adapt to the rapidly changing digital landscape and create inclusive education systems that leave no one behind.
This workshop underscores Nepal's commitment to advancing digital education, bridging the digital divide, and achieving lifelong learning for all, in line with global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
