Kathmandu, December 14, 2024 - On the occasion of the 76th International Human Rights Day, a national assembly titled "Strengthening Stakeholder Roles in Accessing Loss and Damage Fund" was organized at the Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu. The event aimed to highlight the integration of social, economic, and environmental dimensions in safeguarding the human rights of marginalized communities, particularly in the context of climate-induced adversities.
The program commenced with welcome remarks by Ms.Shakti Gurung, Vice Chair of DPNet Nepal, followed by the program objectives outlined by Surya B. Thapa, Immediate Past President and Chairman of DPNet Nepal. The assembly featured key presentations and discussions that shed light on pressing issues related to climate change and access to the Loss and Damage Fund.

Research Findings on Loss and Damage: Presented by Kriti Shrestha from DCA, showcasing the vulnerabilities of marginalized communities to climate impacts in Gulariya and Dullu on flood and drought issues.
Similarly, Climate Change Fund Updates in Nepal, delivered by environmentalist Namaraj Sapkota, focusing on the current status and potential utilization of the fund.Strengthening Stakeholder Roles in Accessing the Fund, A detailed presentation by Dr. Ngamindra Raj Dahal, emphasizing actionable strategies for equitable and effective fund access.
The event also featured remarks from distinguished guests and representatives. Mr. Bhola Bhattarai, Coordinator of Human Rights Magna Meet, highlighted the alignment of human rights with climate justice.Ministry of Finance, Mr. Namaraj Pudasaini, addressed the government’s commitment to climate resilience. Dr. Bhisma Bhusal, Joint Secretary of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), provided insights on integrating disaster risk reduction with climate adaptation efforts.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Hira Singh Thapa, Executive Director of SOSEC Nepal, and closing remarks by Dr. Raju Thapa Chairman, from DPNet Nepal.The assembly was coordinated by SOSEC Nepal and organized by DPNet Nepal, in collaboration with several national and international stakeholders. It served as a platform to foster dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, environmentalists, and civil society organizations.
