Kathmandu, December 16, 2024 – Dalit Lives Matter, a global movement committed to ending caste-based violence and exclusion, has launched a new television program titled “Caste Conversation”. The initiative seeks to address deeply rooted discrimination and structural exclusion faced by Dalits and marginalized communities in Nepal.
The movement, established after the tragic Rukum West massacre on 23rd May 2020, where Nawaraj BK and five others were murdered during an inter-caste marriage attempt, has grown into a platform fearlessly challenging systemic injustice. Dalit Lives Matter emphasizes that the caste system has obstructed Nepal’s societal progress and perpetuates economic, political, and social inequality.
“Caste Conversation” is a groundbreaking 12-episode series that features youths from diverse communities, genders, languages, and faiths representing all seven provinces of Nepal. The show, directed by Shanta Nepali and hosted by Bridikha Senchury, facilitates self-reflective dialogue among young people. It explores how caste intersects with issues like gender, love, education, land ownership, technology, and justice.
The show airs on Himalaya Television and aims to foster a constructive, solution-oriented dialogue on ending caste-based discrimination. Dalit Lives Matter highlights that the caste system’s injustices are not confined to one community but affect society as a whole. The movement calls for collective participation, partnership, and collaboration to create a just and inclusive society.
In a statement, Pradip Pariyar, representing Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance, urged global support for their mission: “There is no alternative for meaningful collaboration between people of all castes and communities to end the caste system – a disgrace to humanity.”
The movement invites individuals and organizations to unite in making the world a better place where dignity and equality prevail.
