Kathmandu, Nepal – In a significant stride towards promoting fair and ethical recruitment practices, a Stakeholder Consultation was organized yesterday as part of the week-long celebrations for International Migrants Day 2024. This event, spearheaded by the Migrant Rights and Decent Work (MiRiDEW) Project of ILO Nepal, was funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and coordinated in collaboration with the National Network for Safe Migration (NNSM).
The consultation served as a platform for presenting strategies and action points to advance fair recruitment practices for Nepali migrant workers.
The event was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Hon'ble Minister Sharat Singh Bhandari, from the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security (MoLESS). It witnessed participation from a diverse group of stakeholders, including representatives from government agencies, non-government organizations, trade unions, the Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA), civil society, media, and local governments.
Speaking at the event, Minister Bhandari emphasized the importance of ethical recruitment practices to protect the rights of migrant workers and enhance Nepal's labor migration framework.
Marking International Migrants Day, ILO Nepal reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights of Nepali migrant workers. "Decent work and fair recruitment are integral to ensuring the well-being and dignity of migrant workers," said a representative from ILO Nepal.
The discussions and outcomes of the consultation will be instrumental in shaping future policies and collaborative efforts in advancing ethical recruitment practices.
