The picturesque Fewa Lake in Pokhara is set to host the Second Nepal-China Friendly Dragon Boat Race on December 29-30, 2024. This event, aimed at fostering Nepal-China cultural ties and promoting tourism, will feature 20 teams, including 11 from Nepal, 8 from China, and 1 from Singapore. Competitors will vie for victory in two race categories: 200 meters and 500 meters.
Announced at a press conference in Kathmandu on December 22, the race offers enticing cash prizes: $5,000 for first place, $2,000 for second, and $1,200 for third. All other teams will receive $500 as a participation reward.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Gandaki Province Government, Pokhara Metropolitan City, Chinese Embassy in Nepal, and Nepal Tourism Board, supported by co-organizers such as the Nepal Dragon Boat Association, Pokhara Tourism Council, and Pokhara Overseas Chinese Association.
Dragon Boat Racing, designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, is a significant Chinese cultural tradition gaining global popularity. The race not only celebrates this heritage but also strengthens Nepal-China relations while showcasing Pokhara as an international tourism hotspot.
