Pokhara, Kaski, December 23, 2024
In an effort to strengthen urban sanitation management in Nepal, a two-day technical training program on "Operation and Maintenance of Treatment Centers" was successfully organized in Pokhara. The event, held from December 22 to 23, was a collaborative effort by the Municipal Association of Nepal, ANFO, and UCLG ASPAC under the "Sanitation Advocacy Project in the South Asian Municipal Network - Phase 2."
The training aimed to build the technical capacity of municipal personnel responsible for managing faecal sludge and wastewater treatment centers across the country. With urbanization on the rise, effective management of sanitation facilities has become a priority to ensure sustainable and clean urban living environments.
Addressing the inaugural session, Mr. Kalanidhi Devkota, Executive Director of the Municipal Association of Nepal, emphasized the importance of skilled personnel in ensuring the operational efficiency of treatment centers. "This training is a step forward in equipping our municipal teams with the knowledge and tools necessary for sustainable sanitation management," he remarked.
Similarly, Ms. Bhawana Sharma, Executive Director of ANFO, highlighted the critical role of such initiatives in achieving long-term sanitation goals. "Our collaboration seeks to create a network of well-equipped municipalities that can share knowledge and address challenges collectively," she added.
The training brought together technical staff from various municipalities, focusing on operational methodologies, maintenance practices, and sustainable management strategies for treatment centers. Experts provided hands-on sessions, case studies, and best practices to empower participants with practical insights.
As Nepal continues to tackle challenges related to urban sanitation and waste management, such capacity-building initiatives stand as a testament to the country's commitment to fostering sustainable urban development.
