Chitwan, December 26 – The Prime Minister Agriculture Modernization Project Implementation Unit is set to host a Honey Festival in Chitwan from today until December 29 (Poush 15). The event aims to promote the beekeeping industry and support honey producers in the region.
According to Ravi Kiran Adhikari, officer of the Beekeeping Zone Program, the festival will feature 10 stalls where visitors can taste honey samples and learn about various honey products. The initiative is part of the project’s efforts to bolster the livelihoods of beekeepers by providing assistance in marketing, packaging, and labeling.
The Beekeeping Zone in Chitwan was established in the fiscal year 2075/76 (2018/19) as a hub for advancing beekeeping practices and production. Shiva Sharma, former President of the Nepal Beekeepers' Association, noted that the Honey Festival has significantly motivated local beekeepers, fostering greater enthusiasm and innovation within the industry.
Chitwan is a major honey-producing region in Nepal, with a remarkable output of 800 metric tons recorded last year. The festival is expected to draw attention to the quality and diversity of honey produced in the area, while also providing a platform for farmers and entrepreneurs to connect with consumers and expand their reach.
The event underscores the importance of beekeeping as a sustainable agricultural practice and its potential to contribute to Nepal’s economy. Visitors are encouraged to attend and support local honey producers during the festival.
