Kathmandu – In a significant relief for locals of the northern region, a ferry service has been launched at Satighat on the Arun River, connecting Bhojpur and Sankhuwasabha districts. This development has brought a glimmer of hope to residents who, for years, relied on a suspension bridge for commuting and carried goods manually on their backs.
The ferry service has enabled the transportation of vehicles and goods, reducing the physical strain on locals and improving connectivity between the two districts. However, the absence of a permanent concrete bridge over the Arun River remains a critical issue, hampering long-term development and economic activities in the area.
Residents have expressed a mixed response to the new ferry service. While it has undeniably eased transportation challenges, many emphasize the pressing need for a durable bridge to ensure uninterrupted connectivity, especially during adverse weather conditions when ferry operations can be disrupted.
Local authorities have acknowledged the issue, with discussions reportedly underway to explore possibilities for constructing a permanent bridge. For now, the ferry service stands as a temporary yet valuable solution to the region's transportation woes.
