Kathmandu, December 31, 2024 – A significant program focusing on the status of Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) in urban Nepal was held under the Municipal Network for Sanitation Solutions (MuNASS II) initiative. The event brought together municipal representatives, sectoral partners, and key stakeholders to discuss urban sanitation and share findings from the Shit Flow Diagram (SFD) survey conducted across 65 municipalities.
The survey, aimed at assessing sanitation practices and infrastructure, highlighted the current FSM landscape, challenges, and progress in ensuring safe sanitation in urban areas. Organized collaboratively by ENPHO, the Municipal Association of Nepal (MuAN), UCLG ASPAC, and supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), the program underscored the importance of comprehensive sanitation strategies in achieving sustainable urban development.
Key achievements and activities under the MuNASS II program were presented, including initiatives promoting Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWISAN) approaches. Stakeholders emphasized the need for multi-sector collaboration to scale up FSM solutions and achieve a safer urban environment.
This initiative reflects Nepal's commitment to addressing urban sanitation challenges, ensuring public health, and enhancing environmental sustainability in line with global sanitation goals.
