The monsoon has reactivated from today, bringing the prospect of rainfall across the entire country. This will provide much-needed relief to those who have been enduring scorching heat due to the recent dry spell.
However, the rains are likely to negatively impact crops that are ready for harvest and other ongoing agricultural activities.According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the combined effect of monsoon winds and moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rain across all provinces from September 24 to 28.
Due to the rains, there is a risk of landslides, floods, landslips, and debris flow. There is a risk of inundation in urban and Terai regions. The water levels in large and small rivers and streams may rise, potentially affecting daily life, agriculture, health, tourism, road, and air transport.
Therefore, the Meteorological Forecasting Division of the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has requested the general public and all stakeholders to exercise necessary caution and preparedness across the country.
