Hetauda, January 5 - The alternative route linking Makwanpur to Kathmandu via Mahalaxmi Khola–Matatirtha–Satungal will remain closed for 15 days starting Monday, January 6. The closure is to facilitate cliff cutting and other construction work near Mahalaxmi Khola, located in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-5 of Makwanpur.
According to Dutaraj Titung, Ward Chairperson of Indrasarovar Rural Municipality-5, the section from Mahalaxmi Khola to Chakhel Deurali is undergoing significant infrastructure upgrades. The work includes the construction of retaining walls, cliff cutting, and drainage systems. These efforts are part of a broader initiative by the Bagmati Province Government’s Infrastructure Development Office.
The road, one of the shortest routes connecting Hetauda to Kathmandu, will be closed from January 6 (Poush 22) to January 21 (Magh 7). However, the upgrading work is limited to the Makwanpur side, with no current development on the Kathmandu side of the route.
In the meantime, traffic on the Kulekhani–Sisneri–Chhaimale–Dakshinkali and Pharphing–Talku–Humane road sections is being managed one-way due to ongoing construction under the Capital Infrastructure Development Special Project in Hetauda.
Travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly, as the temporary closure and one-way operations may impact travel times and accessibility between Hetauda and Kathmandu.
