The Chief Executive Officer of the Nepal Tourism Board, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi, emphasized the importance of research in realizing Nepal's untapped tourism potential during the inauguration of the National Tourism Conference in Kathmandu.
Organized by the Tourism Research and Training Institute (TRTI), the event spotlighted the board’s commitment to working with stakeholders to position Nepal as a “lifetime experience” in key markets.Mr. Joshi acknowledged that while Nepal is globally recognized for its mountaineering and adventure tourism, there is much more to offer.
He emphasized that thorough research and strategic promotion could unlock the country’s vast potential in areas beyond adventure tourism, promoting Nepal as a place for unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Despite the diverse tourism opportunities available, the country has yet to fully leverage its strengths across different sectors.
The event also saw participation from students representing 130 National Sustainable Tourism Clubs from schools across Nepal. These clubs, supported by the Sustainable Tourism for Livelihood Recovery Project (STLRP)—a collaboration between the Nepal Tourism Board and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)—are instrumental in training the next generation of tourism leaders and promoting sustainable tourism practices.
This initiative aligns with Nepal’s broader efforts to integrate sustainability into tourism, ensuring that future growth benefits local communities and preserves the country's natural and cultural heritage.
