Ridi Power Company Limited has emerged as a leading force in Nepal's renewable energy sector, showcasing a commendable legacy of innovation and development in hydropower and solar energy.
The company was originally established as Ridi Hydropower Development Company in 2057 BS (2001 AD) to develop the 2.4 MW Ridikhola Hydropower Project in Gulmi and Palpa districts. After operating as a private company, it was converted into a public limited company in 2065 BS (2008 AD) to promote wider public participation in hydropower investments.
Ridi Power has since expanded its horizons by acquiring Rairang Hydropower Development Company Limited in 2013 AD. This acquisition brought two significant projects under its management: the 500 kW Rairang Small Hydropower Project (operational since 2005 AD) and the 9.9 MW Iwakhola Hydropower Project (operational since 2020 AD). With an investment of NPR 14 crore in the Iwakhola project, the company has secured promising returns, reinforcing its commitment to hydropower development.
In a groundbreaking move to diversify its energy portfolio, Ridi Power ventured into solar energy with the Butwal Solar Power Project, an 8.5 MW grid-connected solar plant in Manigram, Rupandehi. As Nepal's first large-scale private-sector solar project, it features 32,640 solar panels, each capable of generating 330 watts of peak power. The plant spans 26 bighas (17.2 hectares) and connects to the national grid via the 33 kV Butwal Substation in Tilottama. Built in just 10 months at a cost of NPR 67.5 crore, the project was financed by Bank of Kathmandu, Citizens Bank, and Nepal Bangladesh Bank. The electricity produced is sold to the Nepal Electricity Authority at NPR 7.3 per unit.
In addition to its operational achievements, Ridi Power's subsidiary, Sajha Power Company Limited, is currently constructing a 22.5 MW hydropower project in Sindhupalchowk. With 30% of the work completed, the project is expected to be fully operational within the next two years, significantly contributing to Nepal's energy supply.
Looking ahead, Ridi Power has ambitious plans to expand its investments into the agriculture and tourism sectors, along with its continued focus on hydropower development. Speaking about the company’s achievements and vision, Guru Prasad Neupane, Founder President of Ridi Power Company Limited, highlighted the organization’s commitment to sustainable growth and national development.
Ridi Power Company Limited’s visionary approach and innovative projects stand as a testament to Nepal's potential in harnessing renewable energy. The company’s success underscores the importance of public-private partnerships and diversified investments in achieving the country’s energy and economic goals.
