Inaruwa, Sunsari – January 16, 2025: A devastating fire broke out in two separate locations of Sunsari district, destroying five houses and causing significant property damage. The incidents occurred in Gadhi Rural Municipality and Jalpapur, Inaruwa Municipality, due to smoldering embers left unattended by locals trying to keep warm.
According to the Sunsari District Police Office, the first incident occurred at Musahari Tole in Gadhi Rural Municipality-2, where Kamli Rishidev’s bamboo-walled, thatched-roof house was completely engulfed in flames. Police estimate the total loss to be around NPR 220,000, including NPR 9,000 in cash.
The second fire broke out in Inaruwa Municipality-10, Jalpapur, originating from the house of Aujup Miya. The flames quickly spread to the homes of Bhoto Miya, Salauddin Mansuri, and Mursid Miya, reducing four houses to ashes.
Authorities responded swiftly, deploying fire engines from Koshi Rural Municipality, Inaruwa Municipality, and Dewanganj Rural Municipality. Local residents and police played a critical role in extinguishing the fire and preventing further damage.
Fortunately, there were no human casualties or livestock losses reported in either incident. The cause of the fire in both locations has been attributed to embers igniting nearby straw stacks.
This incident underscores the need for greater awareness and precautions to prevent fires during the winter months, especially in areas with vulnerable housing structures.
