Ramechhap, January 23 – The scenic district of Ramechhap, renowned for its sweet orange (junar) farming, has witnessed a significant increase in production this year, bringing smiles to the faces of local farmers.
According to the Agriculture Knowledge Center Ramechhap, favorable weather conditions and improved orchard management have resulted in a 5% rise in junar production compared to the previous year. This year, the district has produced 3,000 metric tons of junar, marking a substantial growth in yield.
Farmers attribute the bumper harvest to disease control efforts and a favorable climate during the flowering season. Ram Kumar Karki, a junar farmer from Sukajor, Ward No. 7, expressed his satisfaction, stating, “Better weather and effective disease management have significantly increased production. We are optimistic about earning more this year.”
Ramechhap's contribution to Nepal's junar exports is noteworthy. Last year, the district exported junar worth NPR 200 million, while this year, the value has risen to NPR 230 million, according to the Prime Minister's Agriculture Modernization Project.
Junar farming in Ramechhap spans over 871 hectares of land, with cultivation concentrated in more than 25 out of the district’s 64 wards. The government has been actively supporting the sector by implementing projects to boost junar production and promote sustainable agricultural practices.
With a thriving junar industry, Ramechhap continues to strengthen its reputation as a hub for high-quality sweet oranges, offering both economic benefits and a promising future for its farmers.
