The seminar, held in Kathmandu, brought together urban planners, engineers, policymakers, and stakeholders to discuss the importance of sustainable urban development and the policy's role in fostering inclusive, climate-resilient cities.
The National Urban Policy 2024 aims to address critical challenges faced by Nepal's urban areas, including rapid urbanization, infrastructure deficits, environmental degradation, and socio-economic inequalities. Experts at the seminar emphasized the need for strategic urban planning, resilient infrastructure, and policies promoting equitable access to resources.
Keynote speakers underscored the importance of integrating climate change adaptation into urban planning. "This policy sets the foundation for sustainable growth while addressing climate vulnerabilities that threaten Nepal's urban communities," said a representative from NIURS.
Participants also discussed the potential of the policy to transform cities into hubs of innovation, economic development, and social inclusion. They called for collaboration among government agencies, local authorities, private sectors, and civil society to effectively implement the policy and ensure its long-term success.
The seminar concluded with a call to action for all stakeholders to prioritize sustainable urbanization as a means to achieve national development goals. The event served as a platform to reinforce the commitment to creating livable, resilient, and inclusive cities in Nepal.
