Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) have stepped up efforts to address persistent traffic congestion and improve pedestrian safety. Both cities have installed push-button traffic lights at busy intersections—36 locations in Kathmandu and eight in Lalitpur.
Officials claim these measures will not only reduce accidents but also enhance the flow of vehicles. The initiative follows public frustration over traffic mismanagement, especially during peak hours, which has long plagued the Kathmandu Valley.
The cities have also introduced stricter enforcement of traffic rules, emphasizing accountability for all, including VIPs, Educational efforts, such as deploying students and police officers to raise awareness among the public, further complement these technological advancements.
These developments signal a collaborative approach to tackling the Valley’s traffic woes and setting an example for improved urban mobility and safety.
