Salyan, Nepal – A massive fire broke out at the second grand Salyan Festival, organized by the National Folk Duet Association, Salyan, causing extensive damage to property and goods. The fire erupted late at night on the eighth day of the festival, which had been ongoing since February 1, 2025.
The inferno engulfed 80 of the 135 stalls set up at the festival, destroying items worth over 800 million Nepali rupees, according to preliminary estimates. Nohkiram Thapa, Secretary of the National Folk Duet Association, confirmed that the fire broke out around 11 p.m.
The flames were brought under control with the combined efforts of the Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and local residents. However, the cause of the fire remains unknown, and an investigation is underway.
“We are working to determine the exact cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damages,” said Salyan Police Chief Keshar Nyaupane.
The Salyan Festival, a prominent local event aimed at promoting cultural heritage and tourism, had been attracting significant footfall. The unexpected disaster has left stall owners, organizers, and attendees in shock.
Authorities have called for a thorough investigation to prevent such incidents in the future. In the meantime, organizers are urging support for those affected by this tragic event.
