Kathmandu, February 15, 2025 – A groundbreaking event, the Nepal Makeathon for Assistive Technology, is set to take place from February 16 to 18 at the Institute of Engineering, Pulchowk Campus in Lalitpur. Organized collaboratively by Impact Hub Kathmandu, FabLab Nepal, and various national and international organizations, the event aims to design and develop innovative assistive devices for people with disabilities.
Under the theme "Innovate Together, Empower Lives: Assistive Devices for People with Disabilities", the Makeathon will bring together engineers, designers, occupational therapists, and individuals with disabilities. The program aspires to foster inclusivity and create impactful solutions to improve the quality of life for differently-abled communities.
This initiative is supported by key partners, including the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Japan Fund for Prosperous and Resilient Asia and the Pacific (JFPR), and the Government of Japan. Other contributing organizations, such as Karuna Foundation Nepal and NFD-N, further reflect a shared commitment to empowering marginalized communities.
The three-day event will include brainstorming sessions, prototype development, and testing of assistive devices, with participants working closely with end-users to ensure practicality and inclusivity in their designs.
The Nepal Makeathon for Assistive Technology underscores Nepal's growing emphasis on inclusive innovation and collaborative design, marking a significant step toward fostering a society that prioritizes accessibility and empowerment for all.
