Kathmandu, February 22, 2025 – The Japanese Language School Association of Nepal (JALSAN) successfully concluded its 10th Japanese Language Speech Contest at Alfa House Banquet, New Baneshwor, Kathmandu. The event celebrated linguistic excellence and cultural exchange, with participation from 15 talented students representing various Japanese language schools in Nepal.
Ishan Limbu from the Innovative Japanese Language Institute clinched the first position, followed by Arun Limbu from Kathmandu's St. Xavier Education in second place, and Sanjivani Basnet from Wakaba Education in third place. The winners were awarded generous prizes, with the first-place winner receiving a laptop, the second-place winner a tablet, and the third-place winner a mobile phone.
The event was graced by Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Mayeda Toru, as the chief guest. In his remarks, Ambassador Toru highlighted the growing ties between Nepal and Japan, noting that around 200,000 Nepalis currently reside in Japan. He emphasized that such speech competitions play a significant role in promoting the Japanese language and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
JALSAN President Ramesh Devkota expressed pride in the association’s decade-long efforts in organizing these competitions. He noted that such initiatives are instrumental in preparing students planning to study or work in Japan, helping them gain a deeper understanding of the language and culture.
Special guests at the event included JICA Nepal Chief Machuzaki Mizuki, former Nepalese Ambassador to Japan Ganesh Yonjan, and other dignitaries. The program was skillfully conducted by JALSAN General Secretary Arun Pandey and Secretary Mahesh Shrestha.
The competition, supported by Everest Bank Limited as the title presenter, also had sponsorship from organizations such as Nepal Lab House, Skyline Travel & Tours Pvt. Ltd., and others. Alfa House Banquet served as the hospitality partner, with CityPay as the payment partner.
JALSAN continues to lead in fostering Japanese language education in Nepal, and events like these demonstrate its commitment to enhancing cultural and linguistic ties between Nepal and Japan.
