Kathmandu,February 24, 2025 - The Institute for Integrated Development Studies (IIDS), in collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), organized a consultation workshop titled "Pathways and Priorities for Inclusive, Resilient, Low-Carbon Development and Climate Finance" on February 24, 2025, at Mercure Hotel, Sukedhara, Kathmandu.
The workshop brought together key stakeholders, experts, and policymakers to discuss strategies and priorities for achieving low-carbon development in Nepal. The event focused on thematic areas such as forestry and environment, agriculture and food systems, energy, transport, and climate finance.
The program began with registration and tea, followed by a welcome and introduction session led by Dr. Biswash Gauchan, Executive Director of IIDS. Dr. James Thurlow, Director of Foresight and Policy Modeling at IFPRI, delivered a virtual keynote on the objectives of the workshop, emphasizing the importance of inclusive and resilient development pathways.
Key discussions revolved around Nepal's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC 3.0) and an overview of climate finance, led by representatives from the Ministry of Forestry and Environment and experts from IIDS. The sessions were moderated by experienced facilitators, and participants were divided into groups based on thematic areas for focused discussions on forestry, energy, transport, agriculture, and livestock.
The workshop concluded with summary presentations by group rapporteurs, followed by a Q&A session that encouraged dynamic interaction among attendees. The outcomes of the workshop are expected to guide the formulation of actionable strategies and strengthen Nepal's efforts toward achieving its climate goals.
