Pokhara, Nepal—A provincial training program focused on carbon market project conceptualization and development has commenced in Pokhara. Organized by the Ministry of Finance (MoF), the Ministry of Forests and Environment (MoFE), and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Gandaki Province, with support from UNDP Nepal, the initiative aims to enhance Nepal’s capacity to leverage opportunities in the carbon market to address climate change challenges.
The training provides participants with an in-depth understanding of carbon market fundamentals, including emission reduction mechanisms, project evaluation, and practical carbon accounting. Key objectives include equipping professionals with the skills needed to identify, develop, and verify projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, while ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks.
In addition to technical training, the program emphasizes stakeholder engagement and communication strategies to build broad support for carbon initiatives. By fostering collaboration across sectors, the training is expected to empower participants to drive impactful climate actions at both regional and national levels.
"This program represents a crucial step toward enhancing Nepal’s readiness to participate in global carbon markets and achieve our climate goals," said a representative from the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
The initiative aligns with Nepal’s commitment to climate change mitigation, as outlined in its Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement. By building local capacity, the training seeks to unlock new opportunities for sustainable development while addressing pressing environmental challenges.
