Kathmandu, March 10, 2025 – Nepal witnessed another significant step toward promoting gender-responsive justice with the successful organization of the 'Second Women Judges Conference 2081.' This landmark event, hosted by Judges Society Nepal in collaboration with the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Kathmandu and UNDP Nepal, underscored the unwavering commitment of Nepalese women judges to championing justice and ensuring equity in the legal system.
Building on the success of the inaugural Women Judges Conference held in 2024, this year’s gathering brought together influential voices and key stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities for women in the judiciary. The first conference, co-hosted by UN Women under the EU-UN joint program Empowered Women, Prosperous Nepal, marked a historic milestone, paving the way for continued advocacy and collaboration.
The event highlights the vital contributions of women judges in advancing justice for all, with a particular focus on fostering gender-sensitive legal reforms and breaking barriers within traditionally male-dominated spaces.
As Nepal celebrates International Women’s Day and the International Day of Women Judges, this conference serves as a powerful reminder of the role women leaders play in shaping a just, inclusive, and equitable society.
Key Outcomes and Discussions:
Addressing systemic challenges faced by women in the judiciary.
