Kathmandu, March 15, 2025 – Following the vibrant Holi celebrations, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City carried out an extensive cleanup drive in Basantapur Durbar Square, New Road, Thamel, and Durbarmarg. The city’s cleanup team thoroughly cleaned these areas starting early in the morning, leaving local residents, business owners, and visitors astonished.
During Holi, thousands gather in these popular areas, splashing colors and water on each other. As a result, streets, public spaces, and historical monuments are covered in colors, making post-celebration cleanup a significant challenge.
This year, the city planned the cleanup drive with special preparations. Using modern equipment and technical assistance, the cleanup team efficiently and swiftly cleaned the streets and public spaces. In Thamel and Durbarmarg, which are major hubs for tourists and businesses, the cleanup efforts were particularly praised for restoring normalcy quickly.
Local business owner Ramesh Shrestha from New Road said, "We didn’t expect such quick and effective cleanup after Holi. This effort by the city has positively impacted our businesses." Similarly, a hotel manager in Thamel added, "The rapid cleanup has helped us welcome guests without any inconvenience. The city’s efforts are commendable."
This cleanup initiative across Basantapur, New Road, Thamel, and Durbarmarg has reaffirmed the commitment and services of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The local community and business owners have welcomed this effort and urged the city to continue such initiatives in the future.
