Kathmandu, March 21, 2025: In celebration of the International Day of Forests 2025, a significant event titled "Forest, Food, and Peace Dialogue" was held today at Alfa House, Baneshwor, Kathmandu. The dialogue aimed to highlight the interconnectedness of forests, sustainable food systems, and global peace, emphasizing their role in ensuring a sustainable future.
Organized by a coalition of organizations, including the Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal, COFSUN Nepal, and WRRN Nepal, the event brought together policymakers, community leaders, and environmental experts. Key discussions revolved around the critical role of forests in combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, and fostering harmony among communities.
Speakers at the event underscored the necessity of integrating forest conservation into food security policies and conflict resolution frameworks. “Forests are not just the lungs of our planet but also a foundation for food systems and peace-building efforts,” said a participant during the session.
The dialogue also addressed the urgent need for collaborative efforts in managing natural resources sustainably, particularly in the face of increasing global challenges like deforestation and land degradation.
The International Day of Forests is observed globally on March 21 every year to raise awareness about the importance of all types of forests. This year's theme, aligning with the event’s focus, reinforced the vital connection between healthy forests and a peaceful, food-secure world.
The participants concluded with a call to action, urging governments, organizations, and individuals to work collectively towards achieving sustainable development goals while safeguarding forests for future generations.
