The Second Trans-Himalayan Communication and Social Development Symposium commenced on Wednesday at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. Co-organized by the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) and Kathmandu University’s Department of Language and Mass Communication, the event will run until October 4, 2024.
With over 100 research papers to be presented, the symposium highlights the advancements and challenges in communication and social development.
Nepal's Communication Minister, Hon. Prithvi Subba Gurung, stressed the role of digital communication in Nepal’s future, highlighting China's support in enhancing Nepal's digital infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Bhola Thapa, Vice-Chancellor of Kathmandu University, spoke on the integration of information technology as a vital opportunity for Nepal. Dean Dr. Ekku Maya Pun emphasized Kathmandu University’s commitment to equipping students with both theoretical and practical knowledge in digital communication.
Academic scholars from China, Nepal, India, Bhutan, Pakistan, and the United States are attending, with keynote speakers including Prof. Arvind Singhal (University of Texas), Prof. Li Siqiang (Tsinghua University), and Prof. Nirmal Mani Adhikari (Kathmandu University).
The symposium aims to strengthen dialogue and collaboration across the Trans-Himalayan region, advancing digital communication and social development for societal progress.
