Kathmandu, April 4, 2025 – The Nepali Army and the Indian Army have joined hands for a historic Kanchenjunga mountain expedition, set to take place in April-May 2025. In a significant event, the flag-off ceremony was held today in New Delhi, marking the official commencement of the joint endeavor.
Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh handed over the expedition flag to the team leaders of both sides in a formal ceremony. Representing the Nepali Army, Lieutenant General Dhruva Prakash Shah, Director General of Military Training, was present at the event. The mission symbolizes the deep-rooted military cooperation between Nepal and India, extending beyond strategic alliances to adventure and endurance in the Himalayas.
Dignitaries present at the ceremony included India's Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and Nepal’s Ambassador to India, Dr. Shankar Prasad Sharma, along with senior military officials from both countries.
The Kanchenjunga expedition will test the skills, resilience, and teamwork of the participating soldiers as they navigate the world’s third-highest peak. This initiative is expected to strengthen bilateral military ties and promote mountaineering collaboration between the two nations.
Following the expedition, a formal flag-in ceremony will be held in Kathmandu, where the successful completion of the mission will be commemorated.
