Kathmandu, April 4 — A moderate earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Jajarkot district on Friday evening, causing tremors across several provinces in western Nepal.
According to the National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center, the quake occurred at 8:10 PM with its epicenter located in Jajarkot, a hilly district in Karnali Province known for its vulnerability to seismic activities.
The tremors were felt in various districts of Karnali, Lumbini, and Gandaki provinces, prompting residents to rush out of their homes in fear. As of now, no immediate reports of casualties or significant structural damage have been received. However, local authorities and emergency response teams are closely monitoring the situation.
Nepal lies in a high seismic zone, and experts have frequently warned of the risks posed by active fault lines running beneath the Himalayas. The recent quake serves as a reminder of the need for earthquake preparedness, particularly in rural and geographically fragile regions like Jajarkot.
