Kathmandu, Nepal – The Government of Nepal, in collaboration with the private sector, has dispatched 27 tons of essential relief materials to Myanmar to assist the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck on Chaitra 15, 2081 (April 8, 2025). The earthquake, measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale, has claimed over 3,500 lives and left thousands injured, creating a dire need for immediate assistance.
A joint team comprising officials from various Nepalese ministries and agencies reached Myanmar this morning to deliver the relief package, which includes food supplies, medicines, clothing, tents, and other necessary items. The materials were transported via a chartered flight of Nepal Airlines Corporation, which departed on Wednesday evening.
Nepal's initiative underscores its commitment to regional solidarity and humanitarian assistance. The relief operation aligns with a recent decision by the Council of Ministers to support Myanmar in its time of crisis. In addition to the relief materials, the Nepal Army’s medical team had already been deployed earlier to provide critical medical care to those injured in the earthquake.
This marks a significant collaboration between the public and private sectors in Nepal, highlighting the nation's readiness to extend a helping hand beyond its borders.
As Myanmar grapples with the aftermath of one of the deadliest earthquakes in recent history, Nepal's timely aid offers a glimmer of hope to those affected. Such efforts are a testament to Nepal's dedication to fostering cooperation and compassion in times of need.
