Kathmandu, Nepal – April 18, 2025: The National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Readiness Support Project, has launched the third edition of its five-day Capacity-Building Training on Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS). The program, themed “Translating Green Climate Fund (GCF) Policies into Practice”, aims to empower key stakeholders with the tools and knowledge necessary to integrate GCF's safeguards into Nepal’s climate initiatives effectively.
This strategic training has brought together participants from government ministries, GCF Direct Access Accredited Entities, and potential Accredited Entities. With a strong focus on institutionalizing integrity, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI), Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS), and grievance redress mechanisms, the program underscores Nepal’s unwavering commitment to robust climate action.
Key Areas of Focus
Participants will engage in dynamic sessions that explore:
Gender mainstreaming and managing Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (SEAH) risks.
Stakeholder engagement and developing effective grievance mechanisms.
Environmental and Social Safeguards (ESS) integration throughout the GCF project cycle.
Advanced tools for environmental and social screening, planning, and monitoring.
The training highlights practical applications of strategic frameworks, ensuring Nepal's climate actions are not only environmentally sustainable but also socially inclusive and accountable to the communities they serve.
A Collective Effort for Climate and Development
By focusing on integrating GCF policies at the grassroots level, NTNC is bridging the gap between high-level commitments and on-the-ground implementation. This initiative aligns with Nepal’s broader goals to address climate change while fostering equitable development.
Speaking at the inauguration, NTNC officials emphasized the importance of translating policies into actionable results, ensuring that climate initiatives benefit the most vulnerable populations while adhering to global safeguards standards.
Building Capacity for a Resilient Future
This training serves as a platform for participants to exchange insights, learn from best practices, and collaborate on designing resilient, community-focused climate projects. It reinforces the critical role of capacity building in achieving sustainable development outcomes that prioritize integrity, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship.
As Nepal continues to lead regional efforts in climate action, initiatives like these demonstrate a robust commitment to safeguarding the environment and uplifting communities, ensuring that no one is left behind in the fight against climate change.
