Kathmandu—In a remarkable stride towards sustainable construction, Habitat for Humanity Nepal recently conducted a hands-on workshop aimed at enhancing the capacity of bamboo treatment centers in building prefabricated bamboo wall panels using the innovative CBFT (Cement-Bamboo Frame Technology) system. The two-day event not only inspired participants but also marked a significant milestone in promoting efficient and eco-friendly housing solutions.
The workshop brought together professionals from bamboo treatment centers, who actively engaged in constructing a prefabricated bamboo wall panel. Their enthusiasm was evident as they expressed a keen interest in further understanding the technology, requesting a full-scale house model to see how the wall panels integrate with roofing systems.
Key Achievements of the Workshop:
Improved Production Capability: Treatment centers are now equipped to produce high-quality prefabricated bamboo wall panels, laying the groundwork for sustainable housing solutions.
Reduced Construction Time: The CBFT system enables the construction of a house in just 25 days, a significant improvement in efficiency.
Sustainability in Focus: The method minimizes material wastage and optimizes bamboo utilization, making it an environmentally friendly choice.
Enhanced Precision and Efficiency: The new technology allows for more accurate and less time-intensive work processes.
The workshop was supported by The Hilti Foundation and Base Bahay Foundation, Inc. Key figures such as Prakirna Tuladhar, Deputy Director General of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, and Prachand Man Pradhan, Dean of the School of Engineering at Manmohan Technical University, lent their expertise and commitment. Tuladhar emphasized the importance of developing Bamboo Guidelines and Codes to ensure widespread adoption of such sustainable practices.
Green Gold Solutions hosted the workshop at their treatment center, providing a practical setting for participants to learn and innovate.
This initiative not only enhances construction efficiency but also highlights the immense potential of bamboo as a sustainable material for housing. With such groundbreaking steps, Habitat for Humanity Nepal is paving the way for greener, more sustainable housing solutions in Nepal and beyond.
