Lalitpur, April 19, 2025 – A four-day training program focusing on the syndromic case management of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) commenced today at the Family Planning Association of Nepal (FPAN) headquarters in Pulchowk, Lalitpur. The training, scheduled from April 18 to 21, 2025, is supported by Australian Aid and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).
The initiative aims to equip healthcare professionals with advanced skills and knowledge to effectively diagnose and manage STIs using the syndromic approach. This method emphasizes the treatment of symptoms rather than laboratory diagnoses, ensuring rapid and accessible care, particularly in resource-limited settings.
Representatives from FPAN highlighted the critical need for such capacity-building programs in Nepal. “STIs remain a significant public health challenge, and timely management can prevent complications and reduce transmission rates. This training is part of our broader effort to strengthen sexual and reproductive health services across the country,” an FPAN official stated.
The program brings together healthcare workers, clinicians, and community health volunteers from various regions. Participants will engage in interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and case discussions led by national and international experts in the field.
The collaboration with Australian Aid and IPPF underscores the global commitment to improving reproductive health outcomes. Both organizations have been longstanding partners in promoting access to quality healthcare in Nepal.
As the training progresses, it is expected to foster enhanced STI management practices, ultimately contributing to better health outcomes for individuals and communities.
