Lalitpur, Nepal – April 19, 2025: Shangri-La Orphanage Home (SOH), a pioneering non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the lives of orphaned and vulnerable children in Nepal, marked its 25th anniversary with a grand celebration. Established in 2055 B.S. (1998 A.D.), SOH has spent the past two and a half decades transforming lives through education, vocational training, healthcare, and child-centered initiatives.
The anniversary celebration, held at Hotel Himalaya Lalitpur, brought together children, staff, alumni, local community members, and international supporters, including representatives from the Govinda Association, Germany, whose financial and technical support has been instrumental in SOH’s journey.
A Legacy of Compassion and Care
Founded with a mission to uplift orphaned and needy children, SOH started its journey in a rented house in Tilganga, Kathmandu, sheltering just five children. Over the years, it expanded its reach, moving from Bagdol, Lalitpur, to its current location in Chapagaun. Today, SOH is a beacon of hope, having supported hundreds of children through projects such as orphanages, schools, scholarships, vocational training centers, and youth rehabilitation programs.
SOH’s mission is clear: to improve living standards for orphaned and needy children by ensuring access to formal education, healthcare, and life skills. Its vision is even more inspiring – a Nepal where every child, regardless of their background, grows up in a safe, loving, and empowering environment.
Empowering the Next Generation
The organization’s impact is visible in the lives of its beneficiaries. Over the past 25 years, SOH has equipped children with the tools they need to lead confident, responsible, and compassionate lives. Many alumni have gone on to become successful professionals and community leaders, embodying SOH’s commitment to nurturing future leaders.
A Milestone Celebration
During the anniversary event, SOH’s Chairperson Mrs. Yamuna Marasini expressed gratitude to the staff, supporters, and children who have been part of this remarkable journey. “Our journey from a small rented house to a national-level organization has been fueled by love, determination, and a shared belief in the potential of every child,” she said.
Representatives from the Govinda Association highlighted their longstanding partnership with SOH, emphasizing the importance of global collaboration in addressing child welfare issues. Former beneficiaries also shared heartfelt stories of how SOH transformed their lives, drawing tears and applause from the audience.
Looking Ahead
As it celebrates 25 years of service, Shangri-La Orphanage Home is committed to furthering its mission. Plans are underway to expand programs, enhance facilities, and strengthen partnerships to ensure no child is left behind. The organization aims to continue providing a safe, nurturing environment where children can thrive and realize their full potential.
The event concluded with cultural performances by children, a photo exhibition showcasing SOH’s journey, and a renewed pledge to create a brighter future for Nepal’s most vulnerable.
