Janakpur, Nepal - Madhesh Province hosted a crucial provincial consultation on the National Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Action Plan, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare, the Ministries of Education and Health, training centers, and various development partners. Supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the event highlighted the urgent need to address the growing concerns around GBV in the region.
During the consultation, the Ministry of Sports and Social Welfare revealed alarming statistics, stating that over 600 cases of GBV are reported monthly in Madhesh Province. This underscores the severity of the issue and the necessity for immediate, coordinated action. The Ministry emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration among federal, provincial, and local governments to effectively address and prevent GBV.
The event saw active participation from multiple sectors, including education, health, and social welfare, which provided valuable insights into combating GBV. Participants collectively stressed the importance of a multisectoral approach to ensure a comprehensive response to this pressing issue.
By integrating efforts across different sectors and levels of government, stakeholders aim to create a safer and more equitable environment for all residents of Madhesh Province.
