In a collaborative effort to celebrate World Food Day 2024, the Provincial Youth Team (PYT) of Lumbini, with support from FAO Nepal and WFF Nepal, organized a workshop focused on the theme, "The Role of Indigenous Seeds in Enhancing Climate Resilience: A Pathway to Adoption." The event, held at Paklihawa Campus, highlighted the significance of local seeds in fostering sustainable agricultural practices amidst climate challenges.
The workshop drew over 30 participants, primarily students from agricultural backgrounds. Throughout the session, attendees engaged in insightful discussions on the adoption of indigenous seeds as a vital strategy to build climate resilience in farming communities.
As part of the event, the participants also visited the Plant Quarantine Office in Bhairahawa, where they had an enlightening interview session with Mr. Salik Poudel, Senior Plant Quarantine Officer. He provided valuable insights into plant quarantine policies and procedures, helping participants understand the critical role of plant health in safeguarding the agriculture sector.
This initiative marks an important step toward raising awareness about indigenous seeds and their role in sustainable development, aligning with global efforts to combat the impacts of climate change on agriculture.
