Kathmandu, Nepal – The Kathmandu Environmental Education Project (KEEP) recently welcomed a generous contribution from Avis Choy and a group of friends representing Hikipedia from Hong Kong. The group donated 40 pairs of hiking shoes to KEEP's Porter's Clothing Bank, an initiative aimed at equipping porters with essential gear to navigate Nepal's rugged mountain terrains safely and comfortably.
The trekkers, who completed a trek to the Everest Base Camp, expressed their gratitude for the experience and committed to supporting Nepal's trekking community. Their donation will provide critical support to porters who often lack the appropriate gear needed for their demanding work in high-altitude regions.
KEEP, a non-profit organization focused on sustainable tourism and the welfare of porters and trekking staff, emphasized the importance of such contributions in ensuring the safety and well-being of porters. A representative from KEEP stated, “This kind of support is invaluable in helping us fulfill our mission to enhance the quality of life for porters and trekking workers.”
Hikipedia’s visit and donation reflect a growing global awareness of the challenges faced by Nepal’s trekking support community. The initiative is an example of how international travelers can give back to the local communities that make their adventures possible.
KEEP has encouraged others who are interested in donating hiking gear or clothing to visit their office in Kathmandu or reach out via phone. With ongoing efforts to support the trekking community, KEEP hopes to see more similar contributions in the future.
For those planning their next adventure in Nepal, KEEP is always ready to welcome you back and looks forward to continued collaboration with supporters around the world.
